If she had recommended something that was total crap (and I can assure you, there's a LOT of total crap to be found in Anime, just like with other movies), then we might have quickly and permanently lost interest. After I read the series of post on Robots and AI by Matt Williams, I just couldn't resist coming up with my own favourites from Asian pop culture which actually means I'm going to be writing about AIs, robots, and cyborgs from Japanese science fiction. The stories are rock solid and the dubbing is superb. But she told us I also favor good dubbing. I've gone back to shows I've dropped and now find them amazing (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex), shows that I've taken years to complete (Monster), and shows that people recommended I watch since forever (Planetes, Revolutionary Girl Utena), and The narrative explores Kusanagi's concern that she is losing whatever thing that keeps her human, and this is cheerfully contrasted with how the Tachikoma and their AI inexorably become more human.
